A project based introduction to the essential components of mathematical modeling. Using fully developed case studies and exploratory student projects, the aim is to provide abroad perspective on modeling physical, biological and societal phenomena using modern mathematical methods. In particualr, emphasis will be placed on three proto typical modeling paradigms: dynamical systems, statistical/probabilistic modeling and optimization.
