COURSE DESCRIPTION: |
Babylonian and Egyptian mathematics. The Greek achievement: Eudoxus, Euclid, Archimedes and Apollonius; mathematics of the Hindus, Muslims and Chinese. The medieval period in Europe. Algebra in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The creation of the calculus. Selected developments in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. |
